Functionality If you have a static brochure website, you may wish your visitors could browse a regularly updated Events Diary or see the latest News. Our web applications give your site that functionality, updating live pages from a database which, in turn, is updated through a simple administration section (or Content Management System, CMS) by you. This allows you to add the latest event through a simple form and add it to the live website by clicking a Save button. There is no need for you or your staff to have any understanding of web technologies such as HTML or FTP. top^ Content Management Systems (CMS) A CMS allows you to access a protected area using a unique log-in name and password. Once logged in you will be presented with links to pages containing forms which allow you to enter altered text, select new images from an image library or a selected drive and add or remove pages. A more comprehensive CMS will automatically add new pages to the menu system throughout the site or remove links to pages you wish to delete. You control your website and build it how you wish - it couldn't be simpler. Top^ Databases To allow you control of your website, it is necessary for us to create a database which will store the content (text, images, PDF files, etc.). Where once a website might have consisted of dozens of pages of HTML, one for each page of information, the sites we design will have one or two template pages which act as holders for the content. When a page is requested, the system knows which link has been selected and, therefore, which page of information the user wishes to see, and presents a page which is populated from the database accordingly. Top^ CSS - Cascading Style Sheets To ensure that the display of your content is consistent throughout the website (i.e. font sizes, colours, etc.) we use a CSS or style sheet which controls the look of all the text, etc. This means that any content you add is formatted when it appears on the live page and the look of the whole site can be altered from a single file, rather than on each page. Top^ Website Design You can add a CMS to your existing website as well as other web development such as Events listings or News feeds and archives. Alternatively, you may want to freshen up your website with a redesign. Sometimes, a redesign (in whole or in part) may be necessary to allow the development work to be undertaken. Top^ Accessibility With new legislation coming in soon, it is important to ensure that your website is available to as wide an audience a possible. Database driven websites are ideal for creating alternative text-only websites. Once the content is in the database it can be called up to create a text-only site, without the need for re-entering text in special pages.
